Operation
The system features two heat exchangers: a hydrogen shell-and-tube type, known as the pre-cooler, which reduces the hydrogen temperature to approximately 25–30°C.
The pre-cooled hydrogen then enters the second heat exchanger, called the evaporator. Here, the temperature is further lowered to 0–3°C, enabling precise adjustment of the dew point. The evaporator’s cooling coils are powered by a refrigeration system, maintaining the low temperatures required for operation. As a result, moisture in the hydrogen condenses into water, which is collected in a secure condensate collector. This water can be drained as needed.
After leaving the evaporator, the hydrogen flows back to the pre-cooler, where it performs dual functions: further cooling and reheating. The dry hydrogen exits the system at a safe temperature, typically between 25–40°C.
